What is Matropia?
Matropia is an independent organization that evaluates femtech (female technology) products across four dimensions: Security & Privacy, Accuracy, Foundation, and Equity. We provide transparent, research-based scores to help consumers make informed decisions about health technology products.
What is femtech?
Femtech — short for female technology — refers to software, products, and services that address health needs specific to women and people with female biology. This includes period trackers, fertility apps, pelvic floor devices, menopause platforms, telehealth services, wearables, and more.
Scoring & Methodology
What does SAFE stand for?
SAFE stands for the four dimensions we evaluate: Security & Privacy, Accuracy, Foundation, and Equity. Each product is scored across all four dimensions to produce a total SAFE Score out of 100.
How are products scored?
Each dimension is scored out of 25 raw points based on specific sub-criteria. The raw scores are then weighted (Security 35%, Accuracy 35%, Foundation 15%, Equity 15%) to produce a final score out of 100. For full details, see our Methodology page.
What does "Meets SAFE Standard" mean?
Products that score 80 or above with no individual dimension below 15/25 earn the "Meets SAFE Standard" designation. This indicates strong performance across all four evaluation dimensions. It is an informational designation, not a product endorsement.
What information do you use for evaluations?
We review publicly available information including privacy policies, terms of service, published research studies, regulatory filings, company websites, app store listings, marketing materials, and third-party security assessments. We do not test products directly or access proprietary internal data.
Product Submissions & Disputes
How can I submit a product for review?
You can suggest a product for review through our Submit a Product page, or by emailing us at hello@matropia.com. We prioritize products based on consumer interest and relevance.
Can a company dispute its score?
Yes. If a product manufacturer or user believes a score does not accurately reflect a product's current state, they can submit a reconsideration request by emailing hello@matropia.com with the product name, the specific dimension(s) in question, and supporting evidence. Requests are typically reviewed within 14 business days.
Do companies pay to be reviewed or to improve their score?
No. Matropia is 100% independent. We do not accept payment for reviews, and products cannot buy better scores. All evaluations are based solely on publicly available evidence and our standardized methodology.
